The Williams Lake Mustangs beat out the Castlegar Rebels 5-2 on Saturday, Nov. 2 on home ice.
With a scoreless first period, things picked up in the second, which finished in a 2-2 tie.
The third period saw the Mustangs manage to send two more home with just over half the period gone. The first of the two was a power play goal by Matthew Keylor.
The Rebels pulled their goalie in an effort to make a comeback, but an empty net goal clinched the win for the home team.
The Mustang goalie Evan Legggett made 40 saves for the Mustangs versus the Rebels' Mason Hillier making 32 for the visiting team.
This win marked two in a row for the team, which had been on a losing streak for some time. The team is still near the bottom of the standings in the KIJHL with 10 losses in their first 14 games of the season, putting them at the bottom of their division.
However, JP Desabrais, a Mustangs forward, was named one of the three KIJHL stars of the week. Desabrais scored a goal and seven points in two games over the weekend for the team. In the Friday game against the Kelowna Chiefs, Desabrais scored a short-handed goal to tie the game and had three assists in the team's 9-5 victory over the Chiefs.
In the Saturday game against the Rebels, he made another three assists, one of which was the winning goal. In 15 games, Desabrais has managed to earn 17 points.
