Williams Lake gymnasts preparing for B.C. championships

21 local athletes for heading for the events

Williams Lake gymnasts are gearing up to compete in this year’s provincial championships.

The Cariboo Chilcotin Gymnastics Association will be sending 21 athletes to participate in the 2024 Compulsory Gymnastics BC Championships on April 11 and 12, and the Xcel Challenge on April 13 and 14. Both events are being held at Queens Park Arena in New Westminster.

Both of these provincial championship events are the largest and most prestigious annual gymnastics events in B.C.

Gymnasts who will be attending the provincials are: Aria Feddema, Presleigh Schwartz, Madi Taylor, Callia Pook, Emilia Hannas, Gaby Fichtner, Aleigha Leclerc, Ava Meyers, Mya Franklin, Kami McLennan, Brooke Williston, Tenley Glanville, Lauren Pinette, Maddy Croswell, Ariah Reid, Amira Magnusson, Brooklyn Page, Ashlyn Gibson, Emily Nadeau, Xaria Jourdain and Sophia Leclerc.

Last month, the association sent 34 gymnasts to compete in the annual Carol Lenz Memorial Invitational, which was held in Surrey March 8, 9 and 10. All the girls won ribbons and medals, with four other girls winning a special sportsmanship award as well.

Annie Glanville, one of the coaches at Cariboo Chilcotin Gymnastics, says that the entire team has preformed well this year.

“We have had a great season so far,” she said.

The association also participated in the Kelowna Invitational in February, with 36 gymnasts competing.
