Williams Lake’s Linda Stevens won a breakout victory at the B.C. Cup Natural Bodybuilding Championships on May 25.
Stevens won top spot in the Ladies Figure Masters 55+ category. She traveled to Kelowna for the event, along with Larry Fitzpatrick, a three-time competitor, who came away with two wins in Kelowna.
Fitzpatrick competed in 2022 and 2023 as well, and this time he won the Masters 50+ Bodybuilding category and the Masters 50+ Classic Physique category. Last year he had also taken top spot in the bodybuilding category for his age group, but improved on last year’s second place in the classic physique category.
“We are mighty proud of these two hard-working physique/work-out stars,” said Al Campsall, who has competed in the event himself in previous years.
“I am aware of precious few who dedicate more of their time and energy to hone their craft,” he said of his fellow body builders.
This time around, Campsall was out of the competition due to knee replacement surgery he underwent in April, but hopes to be back on stage again next year.
He said not only is it rare to find people who can train consistently to the level required to compete in bodybuilding, but he said posing is also something which doesn’t come naturally most of the time.
“Most people, who want to present their hard-earned physique, fail miserably when they first stand on-stage under the harsh lights,” he said, noting it requires a lot of practice to become good at posing for the judges, and this practice is normally done in private.
“Most of us will not pose in the gym while others are trying to do their work-outs – not cool,” he joked.
