Williams Lake gymnasts had another successful tournament earlier last month.

The Cariboo Chilcotin Gymnastics Association (CCGA) sent a full roster athletes to compete in the Grizzly Classic which was hosted by Kelowna Gymnastix in the Okanagan from May 9 to 12. The whole team had an impressive showing and a few gymnasts brought home some hardware for their efforts.

Clubs from all over the province took part in the competition at the KF Centre for Excellence in Kelowna, which the CCGA called the “perfect venue” with some of the most amazing architecture they have seen.

“It was the most beautiful venue our club has ever competed in,” they stated.

Under the leadership and guidance of the coaching team comprised of Peggy Willcox, Annie Glanville, Shaelynn Dyck, Ariana Dyck and Mikayla Bremner, the gymnasts trained between six to 16 hours per week, depending on age and level, in preparation for the tournament. A total of 34 CCGA athletes were sent to compete in nine different categories.

“The amount of hours and dedication these gymnasts have put in this year is very admirable,” Glanville said. “Medals aside, these gymnasts train hard while having fun and building lifelong friendships. I am grateful to coach such an amazing group of girls.”
