LCSS senior girls host 4-team basketball tourney Jan. 17, 18

The players have learned so much from the beginning of the season, said coach Danielle de Champlain

Lake City Secondary Senior Girls hosted a basketball tournament at their school in Williams Lake on Jan. 17 and 18.

Teams from Barriere, Fort St. James and Ashcroft travelled to participate.

Falcons coach Danielle de Champlain said this season has been about gaining experience on the court.

"With most of my team being in Grade 12 last year and graduating, we only had three returning from my last year's team," she said. "With a new team that has lots of room to grow and learn they definitely don't lack energy and effort."

She said the players have learned so much from the beginning of the season and will continue to improve over the next couple of years.

"During the last game of the tournament on Saturday, Jan. 18, the girls lost a hard-fought battle to Desert Sands from Ashcroft 30-31 in double overtime," the coach added.

Fort St. James won first place, with Barriere placing second and Ashcroft getting third.

De Champlain said the Falcons have plans to set up games against 100 Mile and Quesnel in mid-February.
