Young Cariboo archer Lily Fraser has won the Rising Star Award for 2024 from the BC Archery Association.
One of the annual awards given out by the association, the Rising Star is for a young person who has shown improvement and provided good representation for the province in archery competitions.
In total, the 16-year-old has won six Canadian Championships in the last two years. She has also won six B.C. Championships Gold medals in the last three years, leading the province for her age.
"It is Lily who is always willing to mentor other aspiring archers at our Junior Olympian Program (JOP)," said coach Al Campsall. He said she is also a mentor for the 260+ Club, a separate evening enrichment group Campsall started for other young archers shooting at a higher level.
"During our JOP evening classes, when a young person shows significant desire and potential, I often ask Lily to work with them one-on-one," he said of his reliance on her to help with the groups of 15-30 young archers he and fellow coaches Steve Aumond, Melanie Macomber, Cara Fraser and Larry Fitzpatrick are coaching each session.
"Lily always does a great job of mentoring," said Campsall, attributing her tutelage for helping two new archers joining the 260+ Club.
Campsall said both Lily and her mom Cara Fraser often score higher than he does, which for a coach is a success.
