Battle in the Puddle pickleball tournament in Williams Lake

Pickleball packed the Kiwanis Courts Aug. 24, 25 for a Battle in the Puddle tournament

The weather may have cooled off in Williams Lake Aug. 24 and 25, but the pickleball courts heated up on the weekend thanks to some tournament action.

There were games both days, starting at 9 a.m., at the Kiwanis Courts on Fourth Avenue in downtown Williams Lake and the weather wasn't too bad, though the wind on Sunday challenged players. Forecast rain on Saturday did not arrive, which worked out well for tournament play.

The round robin format tournament was organized and hosted by the Williams Lake Pickleball Club and saw men's, women's, and mixed doubles play. Saturday saw five divisions compete with great weather.

The Dela Calzada family from Williams Lake even returned early from their family summer vacation so Jay Dela Calzada could compete.

Noemie Dela Calzada, along with she and Jay's children Niz, Clive and Julia, were there to support and cheer on Jay for the tournament as they finished off summer vacation at home.

"His hard work and dedication paid off with two fantastic achievements," she said.

Jay earned some cash and a medal for winning third in 3.5 men's doubles and some more cash for winning first with his doubles partner Jay Chappell in the 3.0 mixed doubles.
