Cariboo Archers were among the top B.C. shooters who competed in Maple Ridge over the holiday weekend.
Archers from across B.C. attended the 2024 BC Archery Association Indoor Archery Championships, hosted by Maple Ridge Archers with a record-setting attendance of 171 competitors.
Three Cariboo Archers attended: Cara Fraser, Lily Fraser and Al Campsall.
Cara Fraser shot in the compound women division, which Campsall called a “hotly contested” category. Fraser earned herself a bronze medal for her efforts.
Lily Fraser, the 15-year-old champion archer, not to be outdone by her mother, outshot all the under 18 women to score a decisive 24-point victory and the gold medal, said Campsall.
In the masters 70 category, Al Campsall earned a silver medal.
The three competitive archers were making their way to Sidney, Nova Scotia on Wednesday, April 3. They will be competing in the Archery Canada Indoor 3D Championships being held there April 6 and 7.
Lily is currently the defending indoor champion.
While Lily and Cara are planning to enter the Best of the West Archery Championship tour this summer, Campsall will have to wait and see how soon he’ll be back in competition shape after he has knee replacement surgery in April.
The Best of the West championship series will involve outdoor 3D competitions in Abbotsford, Kamloops, Rock Creek (Kettle Valley), Semiahmoo, Williams Lake and Mission.
Cash prizes will be awarded at each one made up of 50 per cent of the entry fees for each category, so the more entrants the bigger the prize purse.
Anyone who shoots at least three out of a possible six and are among the top shooters in their category get to take part in a “shoot-off” for the prize money at the Abbotsford Arena on July 20.
The first of the series is in Abbotsford after the three return from Nova Scotia, with all three Cariboo shooters able to compete in at least the first event.
Keep tuned as the season continues to unfold for Cariboo Archers.
