Williams Lake Tribune, staff finalists for Ma Murray Awards

The awards honour excellence in community journalism

The Williams Lake Tribune and its staff are finalists in the British Columbia and Yukon Community Newspaper Association (BCYCNA) 2024 Ma Murray Awards which recognize excellence in journalism.

The Tribune is once again a finalist in the category of General Excellence along with the Squamish Chief and Yukon News. Reporter Ruth Lloyd has netted a nomination in the Feature Series Award category for her articles chronicling Rick Hansen’s return home for the 50-year anniversary since his injury.

Reporter Monica Lamb-Yorski has received two nominations for her work in sports writing and photography.

Lamb-Yorski is a finalist in sports writing for her touching story, Hockey community rallies around grieving players, families in wake of teen tragedy.

In sports photography, Lamb-Yorski is a finalist for her photo ‘Jump’ of a potato sack race at Likely’s May Day celebrations.

Regional editor Angie Mindus is also a finalist in the Portrait/Personality Award category for her photo ‘A Cariboo Classic’ taken at the 2nd annual Cariboo Classic Jr. Steer and Heifer Show.

The awards will be announced later this month at an event at the Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver.
