SD27 is accepting offers from potential buyers looking to purchase the old 100 Mile Junior Secondary School Site.

In late December the school district put out a request asking interested parties to submit their plans for the purchase and development of the parcels of land where the school stood until 2021, when SD27 demolished it. This process is part of ongoing facility planning with SD27 selling off properties that have been deemed as surplus. SD27 hopes to identify interested and qualified buyers with whom they could potentially sell the property.

The subject parcels of land are approximately 10.92 acres located near the 100 Mile District General Hospital. After public consultation, the school district intends to offer the properties for sale on an as-is-where-is basis.

Current fair market value (FMV) appraisals list the combined value of the property at $1,550,000 which is currently zoned for multi-family development.

“We will not consider any proposals that are less than FMV. In their submission, the interested parties must outline their future plans for the lots. If the intent is to develop the lot, then please include details on the proposed development, the value to the public of the proposal, the timeline for the development and the purchaser’s conditions. These details are crucial in determining the next steps for the District in disposing of publicly acquired property,” said SD27 in a release.

Potential buyers are responsible for conducting their own due diligence including land title searches, availability of services, servicing costs, development cost charges, zoning, independent legal and accounting advice and environmental due diligence.

Submissions will be received until 1 p.m. on January 17, 2024. The Board of Education in consultation with the Ministry of Education and Childcare will then review the submissions.

Once the initial proposals are reviewed, the next steps will be determined by the Board of Education in a public meeting.

All inquiries related to the request for interest must be addressed to Secretary Treasurer: Brenda.Hooker@sd27.bc.ca or to Superintendent Chris van der Mark: chris.vandermark@sd27.bc.ca.
