Williams Lake RCMP were searching a residence on Second Avenue North the morning of Jan. 7 in response to an incident reported earlier in the week.
“The incident came in on Sunday evening early Monday morning,” Staff Sgt. Brad McKinnon told the Tribune. He said the investigation into the incident resulted in a search warrant at the location.
Taylor DeGroot lives next to the residence under investigation and told the Tribune there was a heavy police presence by 10 a.m.
By 11 a.m. there were at least two marked RCMP vehicles on scene, as well as one unmarked vehicle manned by a swat member, and another vehicle which a man in white protective gear was using.
Paramedics arrived at the residence around that time, stating they were called in for a wellness check, but they left shortly after.
“It’s a continuous problem,” DeGroot said, noting this wasn’t the first time police have stopped in at her neighbours’ house.
“It’s an endangerment to the community and to our kids,” she added.
DeGroot said the ongoing issues with her neighbours infringes on her family’s life. With a family of five, she said it’s not safe for her children to play outside nor have friends over.
“What if something happened,” she said, adding people are always coming and going at the residence.
DeGroot has installed cameras on her property and has been documenting her concerns, hoping the city and the RCMP can take action.
McKinnon told the Tribune there is an ongoing police investigation, but there is no issue for public safety.
“The community is a little safer today,” he said.
