RCMP appealing for information about Kamloops homicide on one-year anniversary

Mark Hoffman was last seen on Dec. 15, 2023 and was found dead south of Kamloops the next day

It is one year since Mark Hoffman was found deceased in Kamloops, and RCMP are renewing their appeal to the public for assistance in solving the case.

The plea comes from the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU), which is continuing the investigation into Hoffman’s death. He was last seen at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 15, 2023, when he made a purchase at Jimmy’s Liquor Store at 408 Paul Lake Road in Kamloops.

On Dec. 18, 2023 the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment issued a release stating that on the afternoon of Dec. 16, police were called to a scene west of Highway 5. There they discovered a man in his 50s and a large dog, both deceased. A green Ford Explorer was found nearby.

The precise location of the homicide was confirmed to be west of Highway 5, off Inks Lake Road within the Logan Lake Community Forest, at the coordinates 50.616435, -120.478799. The area where Hoffman was found is a popular location for outdoor activities, and the RCMP were hopeful that someone had seen something and would contact the police with related information.

The RCMP have now released still images from CCTV footage that shows Hoffman at Jimmy’s Liquor Store. Police previously released photographs of Hoffman, his dog, and his Ford Explorer, which are described as “crucial” in identifying potential witnesses.

“This remains an open and active investigation,” says Staff Sergeant Jason Smart, NCO in charge of the SED MCU. “We’re urging anyone who had contact with Mark Hoffman, saw his vehicle, or has any information that may help solve this crime to contact us.”

Police add that even the smallest detail could be critical in piecing together the events leading to Hoffman’s death.

The RCMP remains committed to seeking justice for Mark Hoffman and his family, and thanks the public for their continued support in this investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the SED MCU’s information line at 1-877-987-8477. If someone has information about the case and would like to remain anonymous, they can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
