The driver of a pickup truck died Tuesday, Jan. 28 after the truck collided with a semi-truck on Highway 5 approximately 25 km south of Valemount.

North District RCMP media liaison Cpl. Madonna Saunderson said the Valemount RCMP were called to the two-vehicle crash at 5:40 p.m.

"Sadly, the driver of the pickup was pronounced deceased at the scene," Saunderson said in a news release. "The driver of the semi received minor injuries."

Highway 5 was closed to all traffic as police conducted an on-scene investigation.

Saunderson said the investigation is ongoing to determine the factors that may have contributed to the crash.

More information will be released as it becomes available, she added.
