A slide in Farwell Canyon on Aug. 20, 1964 brought millions of tons of earth and debris into the Chilcotin River, changing the river's course.
The slide occurred on a Thursday morning when a major portion of a hillside on the south side of the river, slid into the fast flowing stream.
A road that was cut into the hillside on the south side vanished with the slide.
It would take until Aug. 29, for fish sightings in the river, but they did return.
