The Williams Lake Fire Department was on scene at the Williams Creek Apartments on First Avenue in Williams Lake to determine the cause of the smoke alarm going off.

Update:

The Williams Lake Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the Williams Lake Creek Apartments on First Avenue North Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 31.

Captain Bill Page said a furnace in the commons area had an issue with an air exchanger that overheated and caused some smoke.

"We shut it down for the night. Someone will have to come in to repair it," he told the Tribune just before 5 p.m. after fire crews left to return to the hall.
