From unseasonably warm, dry temperatures, to a snowfall warning, to an extreme cold warning all in under a week, the weather in Williams Lake, and B.C., just can’t seem to make up its mind.

After staying up above 0 C until only recently, the thermometer is forecast to begin dropping fast, with temperatures plummeting down as low as -34C overnight Thursday, with daytime highs of -26C.

Environment Canada’s seven-day forecast has prompted an extreme cold warning for the region with temperatures on Friday (Jan. 12) dipping down to a frosty -35C under clear skies.

Puntzi Mountain in the Chilcotin is expected to see -45C Thursday night.

An arctic outflow warning has also been issued for Bella Coola, and the entire north and central coast this week, with strong winds and wind chill values of -20C to -30C expected across the coastal and inland sections.

Environment Canada warns of the risk of frostbite and hypothermia, and encourages residents under these warnings to check on their neighbours.

According to Environment Canada, about five centimetres of snow fell over the lakecity Jan. 9, with the snowpack still well below average for this time of year.
