A 3.29 hectare wildfire is burning out of control west of Merritt, B.C. Wednesday, April 3.

BC Wildfire Service noted the fire was discovered on Tuesday, April 2 and is located three kilometres east of Petit Creek.

It is suspected to be human-caused.

Nicole Bonnett, fire information officer said Wednesday afternoon there are 16 personnel on site and one water tender.

The crews are doing danger tree assessments, danger tree falling and building hand-guards and removing combustible fuels around areas of the fire perimeter where it is safe to work.

“Not all of the material burning is vegetative and there are a number of health and safety hazards. It is not safe for crews to be working there,” Bonnett said.
