BC Highway Patrol caught a driver going 150 km/h in a 110 km/h zone on Highway 97 last week.
BC Highway Patrol conducted a patrol on Highway 97 near Yale Road on April 16, said Sgt. Brian Lamb. There officers observed a vehicle “travelling at a high rate of speed which radar later confirmed as 150 km/h in a posted 110 km/h zone.”
After stopping the vehicle, BC Highway Patrol found the vehicle had no valid insurance, the driver “displayed symptoms of alcohol consumption, had an open liquor container in the vehicle” and only had a valid novice driver’s licence, Lamb noted.
The man refused to provide a breath sample to the BC Highway Patrol.
Subsequently, the man was given an immediate roadside prohibition from driving for 90 days, while his vehicle was impounded for 30 days, in addition to violation tickets issued for “no insurance and speeding.”
Alcohol is alleged to have also played a factor in a vehicle incident at Horse Lake Road near McMillan Road on April 21, Lamb said. EHS and the fire department responded to a vehicle that had “gone off the road, struck a driveway through a fence and struck a utility pole sheering it off.”
RCMP found numerous open liquor containers - and “after interaction with the female driver suspicion of alcohol consumption was determined,” Lamb said.
The female refused to provide a breath sample to the RCMP and was subsequently given a roadside prohibition from driving for 90 days.
Her vehicle, which Lamb said “sustained severe damage,” has been impounded for 30 days.
The female sustained “undetermined injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening and transported to hospital by EHS.”

Stolen vehicles played a role in two alleged incidents last week, noted Lamb. On April 16, the RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle from a driveway in the 3000 block of Felker Street.
Lamb said “over the previous two days a white 2004 Chevrolet Suburban with BC licence plate MN730W was taken from the location.” The vehicle remains missing.
On April 17, RCMP found an abandoned vehicle in the 7000 block of 93 Mile Frontage Road, which was identified as a gold 2001 Ford F350 stolen from Williams Lake in December.
On April 16 Highway Patrol and Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement conducted traffic control device enforcement on Highway 97 and Fourth Avenue, where Lamb said two commercial vehicles were stopped and ticketed for failing to stop at a red light. Another commercial vehicle was ticketed for having an insecure load.
The next day, April 17, BC Highway Patrol issued 11 violation tickets to drivers on Highway 97 near Second Avenue. Offences included failing to stop at a red light, speeding and use of an electronic device while driving. Lamb additionally said other notices were provided related to vehicle defects.
RCMP also responded to a reported theft at a residence in the 4900 block of Mahood Lake Road near Drewry Lake. Lamb said sometime over winter, the property was entered and a substantial amount of construction lumber was allegedly taken.
