Can you remember the last time you went to the gas pump, looked at the price, and thought to yourself “That’s affordable?”

You probably can’t, and that’s for good reason — B.C. has the highest gas prices and taxes in North America. The price of gas reached over $1.70 in Williams Lake this fall and prices over $2.00 have become the norm around Vancouver and Victoria

It hasn’t always been this way. In 2017 when the NDP formed the government, the average cost of gas in Vancouver hovered around $1.30 a litre and it had been relatively stable at that price for the previous six years.

This just shows how much more expensive life has become under this NDP government, but it doesn’t have to be this way.

While the NDP continues to make life less and less affordable our BC United caucus has a plan to end the pain at the pumps.

Our BC United caucus has committed to permanently eliminating the provincial gas tax, which will save drivers up to 15 cents per litre on gas and diesel.

For the average family minivan that will be $20 in savings per trip to the pump and for a truck that will be over $30 in savings. Imagine what families could do with an extra $30 in their pocket per week. This will make a real difference for real people right away.

The reality is British Columbians need to drive to get to work, drop their kids off at school, and take them to hockey practice.

People in the Cariboo and in rural areas across the province do not have the same frequent transit options as those in the Lower Mainland and should not be punished for an unavoidable cost.

Our BC United caucus has a tangible plan to reduce the cost of living and leave more money in your pocket.

It’s time for a government that knows how to deliver results.
