I wanted to write a quick note and really thank the citizens of Knife Creek Road who came together to find a neighbours' young 13-year-old son Charles and his dog Dolly recently.
Charles left for a walk with the dog around 6:00 p.m. and at 7:45 p.m. my husband was approached while returning home from work by the father who was on a quad at this point searching alone and said that his son had not returned and was likely lost in the many acres of Crown land that surrounds our Knife Creek area.
This was the first time this ever happened and was unusual for Charles to not return within 30 minutes. My husband arrived home to pick me up and out we went to help search.
We made calls to all of our neighbours and without hesitation, Brian Iverson, Keith Iverson, Jen Mcdonald, Greg Mcdonald and a few others that those persons knew were out looking for this lost boy.
Darkness came really quickly thereafter and after searching for hours Keith contacted me with the great news that he found Charles and Dolly safe and sound some three miles from home. I contacted his mother Laurel and she was heard yelling to her daughters with relief that Charles was found.
Charles got turned around in the bush and lost his way. Without the help of everyone in the neighbourhood of Knife Creek Road searching back roads from Highway 97 to the power cutline and the surrounding acres of Crown land, this story may have turned into a dire situation. The police were called and were on site at our neighbours' home, deciding the next course of action when Charles was found. The message I would love for you to get out there is that in any situation, it is important to help your neighbours no matter the circumstance. On Knife Creek Road here in the Cariboo that is what we do.....and thankfully we had a happy ending this time......
