Most Canadians have numerous concerns in their lives. Two that are identified by many are climate change and wealth inequality. Climate change seems almost unfixable but hopefully that will change. Wealth inequality, however, can be fixed for the better. Stats Canada says that right now the situation is getting worse. Canada’s one per cent wealthiest are getting richer while the bottom half of the population is losing ground.

Our federal finance minister said she has two priorities that she will address on Nov. 21. One of them is the “affordability crisis” that Canadians are facing. What did she say the government is going to do?

What can people here in Williams Lake do? I hope that readers of the Williams Lake Tribune will offer their answers to the question. Is a legislated living wage part of the answer? What is the living wage for a Williams Lake resident?

A Lauren Collins article in the Williams Lake Tribune on Nov. 8, 2023 says the “Living Wage leaps past $25 an hour in 8 B.C. communities.” Is the Williams Lake living wage higher or lower than that of Prince George at just over $22 an hour?

How many Williams Lake workers are not earning a living wage? It’s part of the wealth inequality picture. What are the other parts of this picture that we should be aware of?
