Editor:

I have long enjoyed Diana French's column with her astute perceptions.

However, I must strongly object to her comment last week that we should remain on standard time, year round.

I suspect that people often conflate the time change with daylight savings time, blaming it, and that is not true. I agree the time change is unnecessary but we should be on daylight savings time, year round.

Living as far north as we do, how we distribute daylight is important. In the winter I want it to be daylight until 5 p.m. not 4 p.m. And in the summer, I love the daylight lasting til after 10 p.m.

Last Saturday evening, I received this email from a friend: "Don't forget to set your clock from sunshine and happiness back to misery and despair this weekend" ... Abolish standard time! Please.
