In Memory ~
Williams Lake's own Cat in the Hat man, Mas Bando, was a well-known, well-loved teacher and friend. He died in April at the age of 81 and his friends gathered recently to share stories about a man whom everyone in town recognized for his crazy hats and ever-present leather shoulder bag. Mas arrived in Williams Lake in 1973 to teach at Airport Elementary, now Cataline Elementary, and he taught Grade 5 there until his retirement. He was a member of the Williams Lake Players Club and Maureen Saunders Dance Studio where he was the only man in his jazz dance class. Mas was a regular visitor to the Bean Counter Bistro, joining his friends for afternoon coffee. He was a great supporter of the library and volunteered with the Friends of the Williams Lake Library committee, raising funds for their projects. He will be deeply missed by many people.
