The 100 Mile House RCMP are asking all motorists to drive with caution around trick-or-treaters this Halloween evening in residential areas.

Sgt. Brian Lamb of the RCMP advises that costumes have "some form of reflective tape or flashlights are carried to be more visible to motorists." In addition, he said RCMP officers will be out patrolling the residential areas and will be handing out candy.

Speeder ticketed

On Sunday, Oct. 27 100 Mile RCMP observed a driver speeding near Highway 97 and Exeter Station Road. Lamb said officers were conducting a patrol of the area and radar confirmed the vehicle was driving over twice the speed limit, going 116 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Officers then stopped the vehicle and issued the driver a speeding ticket for excessive speed over 60 km/h and gave them a $483 fine. RCMP then impounded the driver's vehicle for seven days.

Stolen RV/Vehicle

Two incidents were reported to the RCMP regarding stolen RVs and vehicles last week. On Oct. 24, Lamb said they received a report of a stolen vehicle near West Fraser Lumber on Exeter Station Road. A yellow 1989 International Water truck which was reported stolen the previous week was located in a forested area just north of West Fraser's log yard.

The second incident occurred during an inquiry into an unrelated investigation the RCMP were doing on Oct. 25 at a residence in the 7000 block of Grossett Road. The RCMP say while they were there, they saw an RV trailer - and after conducting queries, they determined the trailer had been stolen from Penticton earlier this year. RCMP then seized and towed "a white 2019 Keystone travel trailer" from the property.

Hit and run

On Oct. 23, RCMP received a report of an alleged hit-and-run collision in the 200 block of Birch Avenue. The incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. when a white semi truck hauling an enclosed trailer hit and damaged a light post - and then left the area.

Vehicle fire extinguished

RCMP responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision on Monday, Oct. 28 along Highway 24 near Bridge Lake.

Lamb said RCMP along with emergency health services and 100 Mile Fire Rescue attended and found the vehicle on fire in the ditch by the road. The single occupant of the vehicle had been found nearby on the road by bystanders.

After investigation, RCMP determined the vehicle was heading eastbound on Highway 24 which had then left the roadway and struck a utility pole before rolling over into the ditch. Lamb said that the driver was taken to the hospital with undetermined injuries that were believed to be non-life-threatening.

The exact cause of the collision is not known at this time.

Gym bag stolen

RCMP received a report of theft from a vehicle parked at a business in the 400 block of Alder Avenue on Oct. 23. Lamb said sometime between 9:20 a.m. and 5:20 p.m. that day the vehicle was entered and an Under Armour gym bag with clothing inside was taken.

Break and Enter

Also on Wednesday, Oct. 23 RCMP received reports of a break-and-enter on Perkins Road. An unknown individual(s) broke into a residential garage and took a Yamaha TV and a Lincoln Welder. It is believed this incident occurred sometime the night before the report.

Those with any information about these incidents or others are asked to call the 100 Mile House RCMP at 250-395-2456, or anonymously 24 hours a day at Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at bccrimestoppers.com
