The lakecity’s rockin’ The Soupbone Blues Band will get some radio air play this weekend for their debut CD Lead Me On.

Songs from the album will be played this Saturday, Jan. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. on radio 93.1 CFIS out of Prince George or www.cifsfm.com

The CD will also be featured on the syndicated blues show At the Crossroads out of Kamloops this Sunday, Jan. 23 starting at 7 p.m. on 97.5 The Rush Williams Lake.

For those out of radio reception, if you have the internet go to www.atcblues.ca then go to the blues links drop box and pick the radio station of your choice.

The show is broadcast all across Canada and on the Internet in the Philippines and Spain. They haven’t broken into the U.S. or Europe yet but that’s next, says rhythm guitarist Garry Grosso.

Grosso says their song Boomerang will be the sixth song featured on At the Crossroads, right after Otis Rush’s I Can’t Quit You Baby.

“That’s good company,” Grosso says. “The album flows nicely. We played it on new years eve and the party was rockin’! A local supporter, The Comer Station Pub put it on their house P.A. the minute they got it and I sold five CDs right on the spot!”

The entire band is extremely proud of the cd and the positive response it is getting. Brant Zwicker the driving force and the voice behind the syndicated radio show out of Kamloops says: “By the way, my engineer/co-producer, who is a professional musician, just loves the sound of this project, he’s got major ears, so that’s a real compliment. All the best to you and the band!”

The Soupbone Blues Band includes Garry Grosso on rhythm guitar, Joel Gyselinck on lead guitar, Dean Fulton on lead vocals, keyboards, and harmonica, Brandon Fauteux on drums, and Shane Boxeur on bass guitar and vocals.

Soupbone is known for its hard driving, very danceable rock, rhythm n’ blues, soul and funk sound that has been heard in concerts at various venues around the city including the Overlander Pub last spring and Performances in the Park. Lead Me On features 11 original songs written by band members in various collaborations: Don’t Miss You at All; End of the Day; Old Johnny Walker; Lead Me On; Mistaken; Shoulda’ Known Better; Leave Your Troubles at the Door; Voodoo Doll; Would You; Boomerang; and Tina’s are all featured on the CD.

The band has three songs already recorded and 14 more ready to get polished up for their follow up cd.

“We just want to take a breath and savor the moment then get right back to recording again. We are still actively gigging and rehearsing to support the cd locally and throughout the province. You can’t rest on your laurels, you’ve got to keep digging,” says Grosso.

The album was recorded last fall in Grosso’s rehearsal studio in Williams Lake in a marathon session with professional recording engineers Marcel Keatting-Olivier and Lorne Seaton from Vancouver. It was then mixed in another session in Vancouver and released on the Chilli Dog Records label.

Rather than recording individual tracks, the band recorded the album “live from the floor” with everyone playing together in the tradition of the great blues artists because they wanted the album to have that authentic live feeling to it.

The band has also recently been added to the Nanaimo Blues Festival this summer and will be hanging with some heavyweights in the blues world including The Downchild Blues Band.

“The cd is really opening up some doors for us. We put our heart and soul into this thing and it’s nice to see the hard work pay off. The guys were on top of their game for this project and I’m proud of them all,” says Grosso.

The CD is available at Sight & Sound, Audio Visual Unlimited, and The Station House Gallery.
