Peter Skene Ogden Secondary School’s (PSO) Amnesty International group would like to invite the community to its annual spring concert March 9.
The theme of the concert, “Playing for Change,” is about bringing people together through music. PSO students will be featured in the concert.
Marilyn Bergen spearheaded the group and the ever-popular concert until she retired from her teaching position last year. The group is now student-run, and has been very busy with campaigns throughout the entire year. In September, it raised funds for families suffering from HIV/AIDS in Africa through a Stephen Lewis Foundation campaign Dare to Fight Aids.
November and December saw PSO participate in human rights activities. The “I Am Not an Object” event raised understanding about body image, women’s rights, and the influence of the media. This event saw mass participation from the student body and was a great success.
In December, the 100 Mile House & District Women’s Centre Society came to PSO to support our White Ribbon Campaign, which is an annual awareness campaign about ending violence against women.
The concert will be held March 9 in the PSO gymnasium in 100 Mile House. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the concert starts at 7. Admission is by donation.
Proceeds go to support Amnesty International, the PSO Amnesty scholarship, the 100 Mile House Food Bank Society, and the Gold Rush Grannies.
