My Wife’s Quartet will hold an evening of blues and jazz at the Gecko Tree on Saturday, Jan. 21.
Doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the show are available at the Gecko Tree.
Reservations for dinner that evening can also be made separately.
My Wife’s Quartet includes the musical stylings of Brian Sawyer on guitar, Glen Robson on trumpet and flugelhorn, Michael Butterfield on acoustic and electric bass guitars and his wife, Suzanne, as lead vocalist.
Music of this popular group is influenced by Eva Cassidy, Billie Holiday, and Ella Fitzgerald, among many others.
Hike

Last July Kris Andrews joined a group of avid birders and hikers for a four-day trek at Nuk Tessli. Later she retraced her father’s 1930 topographical survey route through the Flathead River valley for the Forest Service.
The weather, wildflowers and mountain scenery were spectacular.
Andrews will share her stories and beautiful photographs in a free evening talk, on Jan. 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Scout Island Nature Centre.
The event is part of the Williams Lake Field Naturalists’ evening lecture series.

The second local food forum Let’s Talk About Food will take place in the TRU cafeteria on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is hosted by the Williams Lake Food Policy Council, the City of Williams Lake, Thompson Rivers University and the Oliver Street Market. The food policy council’s five year food action plan is complete and the council will also be seeking input on creating a second food action plan for Williams Lake and area. Everyone is invited. This is a free event with lunch provided by donation, Saturday, Jan. 21

The Barkerville Heritage Trust is hosting a reception and open house celebrating 150 years of Barkerville and the Cariboo Gold Rush (1862-2012) today, Friday, Jan. 13 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Shiraoi House at 690 Gray Ave. in Quesnel.
