Mother’s Day Barn Dance features youth fiddlers

The Cariboo-Chilcotin Youth Fiddle Society is pleased to be offering a Mother’s Day Barn Dance with an old fashioned twist.

The Cariboo-Chilcotin Youth Fiddle Society is pleased to be offering a Mother’s Day Barn Dance with an old fashioned twist, says Stefanie Hendrickson, a parent with the organization.

Titled Love and Lemonade, this event will showcase local youth musicians on fiddle, guitar, piano, and percussion, Hendrickson says.

“This event is a fantastic opportunity for us to not only showcase the hard work that the children and youth have put in this year, but also to raise some funds for our program,” Hendrickson says.

Some dances will be called by Gordon Stobbe and the evening will also feature a cake walk, concession and lemonade stand, flowers by the stem, a silent auction, and a theme basket loonie auction.

She said funds raised help to keep the society’s registration fees low and also allow us to bring in professional fiddlers to put on workshops for the group throughout the year,” says Hendrickson.

The Love and Lemonade Barn Dance takes place at the Elks’ Hall on Saturday, May 7. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and dancing starts at 7 p.m.

Every ticket purchased includes entry to the grand prize draws valued at up to $600.

“This evening of dancing is a wonderful way to spend some time together as a family while celebrating Mother’s Day,” Hendrickson says

Tickets are available at the Open Book.

The price is $15 for adults, $5 for children ages five to 15, and free for children under five.
