Calvin Dyck concert master for the Vancouver Island Symphony since 2000, will be adjudicating the band and instrumental section of the Cariboo Festival taking place in the lakecity this coming Monday and Tuesday.

Dyck also directs the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra which in 2014 toured all 10 provinces in Canada along with the British Columbia Boys Choir.

At the age of five, Dyck was introduced to the accordion, and soon discovered his love for performing and bringing enjoyment to others.

In spite of a college aptitude test recommending a career as a tug boat captain, Dyck completed a music degree at Biola University, and went on to complete a Masters and Doctorate in Violin Performance at the University of Southern California.

Dyck has played in more than 15 countries, and is in demand as a producer, teacher, conductor, and adjudicator.

His show, Songs Strings and Steps is a favourite with local audiences.

In 2012 Dyck was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for service to the community.

In April 2013 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humanities by Trinity Western University.

He enjoys living in Abbotsford with his wife Heather and their two children Christine and Andrew. His favourite hobby is growing Giant Pumpkins.
