The Williams Lake Community Band will be performing in the city hall council chambers tonight Friday, Dec. 16 with a host of special guests.

“Be prepared for something new,” says band leader Michael Butterfield.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m., and admission is by donation. All proceeds go to the Salvation Army.

“The Community Band does this Christmas performance every year, and every year, we welcome new guests to the stage,” Butterfield says. “This year, we have the Gadzukes, who are the latest ‘fad’ in musical performance. They play ukuleles and sing in wonderful harmony. This group started up earlier this year, and they have a strong base of approximately 20 players.”

He says they will also feature composer/guitarist Glen Burrill, who will play a couple of Christmas carols on his classical guitar.

“The program will also feature a world premiere performance of a brand new piece of music, written by Mr. Burrill.”

You’ll hear songs like Santa Claus is Back in Town (sung by Harry Jennings, who also plays tuba in the band), and If Every Day Was Like Christmas (sung by Suzanne Butterfield).

You’ll hear some very tasteful soloing by Brian Sawyer on his electric guitar, and a narration of T’was the Night Before Christmas, set to music.

“Please come out and share the joy this Friday evening at City Hall council chambers,” Butterfield says. “Bring cash or non-perishable food items, and make it good for everyone.”
