News of a Canadian Dental Care Plan is worth sinking your teeth into.
I grew up in a low-income family and to this day, I think my early dental care was based on what my parents could afford.
It wasn't until I was 16, and we had a young more modern dentist, I ever had an X-ray of my teeth.
During that appointment I learned I had several cavities needing to be filled and he said my wisdom teeth should be removed.
As an adult I have had a dental plan and my children have been under one as well. We have been more fortunate than many other Canadians.
Tooth picks were common when I was younger, but flossing was not. Later on, I became a born again flosser in my mid 20s.
A dentist encouraged me to start flossing and said my teeth clenching at night might stop as a result.
I've flossed daily ever since.
I have always thought dental health is part of physical health so I have been happy to see the development of the Canadian Dental Care Plan.
Advocates say the plan is one of the largest social programs in Canadian history and it will make dental care more affordable for up nine million Canadians who do not have dental insurance.
At this point the plan is open to eligible seniors, adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate, and children under 18, and covers services like cleaning, fillings, dentures, and more.
Personally I don't think people will abuse a dental plan, especially one that covers just the basics.
When was the last time you heard someone say they couldn't wait to get another filling?
