It is hard to believe the first weekend of December is here and a busy one it is.
Our editorial team is gearing up to cover activities such as the Earth Friendly Christmas Event, Winter Lights Festival and two different dinners for seniors.
The Earth Friendly Christmas Event, organized by the Cariboo-Chilcotin Conservation Society, will be held at the Cariboo Arts Centre Friday, Dec 6, 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Dec 7 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Similar to last year, it looks like it will not be very cold outside this weekend.
On Saturday there is supposed to be a high of 2º C and a low of -3º C.
That will be ideal for families with children who plan to take in the Winter Lights Festival.
On Saturday, there will be some stores offering in-store activities from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Next General Mercantile, Kit and Kaboodle, Cariboo Regional District Library, The Realm of Toys, The Open Book, What the Fluff, CARAboutique, Cariboo Community Church and Lo's Florist are all participating.
At 5 p.m. the Winter Lights parade will move its way down Seventh Avenue and along Oliver Street to First Avenue.
Come out and cheer your fellow citizens who have stepped up to the plate to make the parade happen.
After the parade, everyone is invited to the Limelight Theatre for some indoor activities such as cookie decorating and writing letters to Santa.
Our colleagues down in 100 Mile House tell us the letters are still getting through, despite the Canada Post strike,
There will also be two popular dinners for seniors on Saturday evening.
One is the annual Christmas dinner a the Seniors Activity Centre and the other is the Seniors dinner at Sacred Heart Catholic School hall sponsored by Hub International.
Tickets for both sold out quickly, indicating there is a need for such gatherings.
Kudos to organizers of both events, plus the Winter Lights Festival.
December can be a dreary or lonely time for some people so your efforts add some light and companionship.
On Sunday, the Museum of the Cariboo Chilcotin will be hosting its annual Christmas tea and bake sale at the Seniors Activity Centre as well from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Don’t forget Operation Red Nose (ORN) kicked off Friday, Nov. 29 to offer safe rides home. The number to call is 250-392-2222 Friday and Saturday nights through December as well as New Year’s Eve.
All proceeds from ORN go to groups in the community benefiting youth, which is an added bonus.
