Winter/spring Elder College courses beginning

Spring courses from Elder College will be getting underway this month, and registration for classes will be Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Spring courses from Elder College will be getting underway this month, and registration for classes will be Wednesday, Jan. 18, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church.

Most courses, designed for those 50 and over, will cost about $30. Final registration for courses remaining unfilled will be Jan. 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the Seniors Activity Centre.

The popular guitar workshop led by George Cornett will be Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon from Jan. 23 to Feb. 27. Newcomers are encouraged to join the fun at the Seniors Activity Centre (SAC).

Instructor Sharon Prevette will inspire students and assist them in exploring their personal goals in Creativity Joy. Classes will be 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays, Feb. 9 to March 15 at SAC.

Furniture Refinishing will be led by Tony Savile at St. Andrew’s Church Hall on Mondays from March 5 to April 2. Classes will run from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Local experts will teach elders about the natural aspects of the Cariboo, from birds and insects to the grasslands. Classes will run from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays from April 21 to May 19, starting at Scout Island Nature Centre.

Anyone interested in archaeology is invited to attend the Armchair Archaeology II class taught by Beth Bedard in Thompson Rivers University Room 1254. Classes will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Fridays, April 13 to May 18.

Jo Ann Hamm will lead the Yoga of Healing class on Tuesdays at the SAC. The classes stress reflection and renewal and do not involve mat work. Sessions are 10 a.m. to noon, Feb. 28 to April 3.

Therisa Peima offers an Introduction to Italian Cooking in two sections at 131 Ridgeview Place. The first section is Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 7 to 23; the second Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 10 to 26. All sessions will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Elaine Watt will teach the Ukrainian art of colouring Easter eggs.  Classes will be downstairs in the SAC from 12:30 to 3 p.m., Wednesdays, March 27 to 28.

Music Appreciation with Dennis Tupman will be held at St. Andrew’s Church Mondays, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. April 16 to 30.

Jeannine Morgan will teach the Intro to Computers course in the SAC downstairs on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon March 26, 38, April 2 and 4 and maybe 11. The course is designed for absolute computer beginners.

Chris Fletcher will teach Computers: The Next Step, for more advanced learners from 9:30 a.m. to noon, March 22 to April 12.

Bridge for Beginners will be brought to the table by Don and Linda McKernan on Mondays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. from April 16 to May 14.

Elder College will also offer three Community Service Courses free of charge.

June Striegler and Joe Bazan will teach a Mature Drivers Workshop on Wednesday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to noon at SAC.

Jim Herperger will teach Estate Planning — A Primer for Seniors, on Saturday, March 10, from 9 a.m. to noon at Thompson Rivers University cafeteria.

Williams Lake library staff will teach elders more about the electronic library, including audio books and E-books and how the system works Fridays,  Feb. 3 and 10 from 10 a.m. to noon at the WL library and TRU library.
