A Williams Lake Young Professionals Network has been formed with the purpose to create a community of like-minded young working professionals between the ages of 19 to 40.

Network volunteer Lauren Bernard said they have heard that people are having a hard time connecting to the community because of lack of places and spaces to meet other young professionals.

On Thursday May 4, the network will host its first event — a free “Meet and Bowl” — at the Cariboo Bowling Lanes at 6 p.m.

“This event is meant to gather all of this great talent that we have in the area, and give them a fun atmosphere to get to know people from other workplaces in the city,” Bernard said.

There are spots for 60 people to attend and as it will be a mixer event, people will be encouraged to mingle.

Volunteer organizer Chris Pedersen says that there is a plan in place to get people to interact and thanks to sponsorship from Taseko Gibraltar there will be door prizes and games.

It will be a great event for people who might be shy in networking, because there’s a plan in place to get people to interact, Pedersen said.

The group is using a Facebook page as their way of creating community and said the goal now is to get the word out that the event is happening.

The event details can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/events/285912751853583/ and people should sign up if they plan to attend.

Moving forward the group would like to create a community primarily using Facebook, so if someone is looking for a person to hike, bike or go to a movie with, they can post that on the page and meet up.
