Williams Lake legion celebrates 50-year members

Vivian McNeil and Heather Isnardy were honoured during a celebration

Two Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139 members in Williams Lake were honoured Friday, June 2 for being 50-year members.

Heather Isnardy said she was an army brat whose father encouraged her to join, which she did when she was 22-years-old.

Originally from Alberta, she moved to Williams Lake to work at the hospital as a medical office assistant and then worked for two years in the hospital in Kamloops.

She met her late husband Frank Isnardy, who was born and raised in the Cariboo, while back in Williams Lake on the weekend visiting friends.

“I have three beautiful children - Tammy Lee, Tanya and Todd,” she said.

Vivian McNeil has served as president several times and was zone commander for over 10 years.

She received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, followed by the Diamond Jubilee Medal, in 2003 the Meritous Service Medal from the Legion for outstanding service, and a few years later a Palm Leaf which is the highest award someone can receive from the Legion, said legion president Joyce Norberg as she presented McNeil with the award.

“She cooked and organized events for many years, especially to Robbie Burns and Burns Night which she has chaired for over 30 years,” Norberg said. “Congratulations dear, you deserve it.”

McNeil thanked everyone for coming.

“I just want to see you all at Burn’s Night - that’s a given,” she said.
