Lake City Secondary School (LCSS) students with their eye on the future are hosting a musical showcase and silent auction on Feb. 27.

The community is invited to support the LCSS Model United Nations (MUN) Club by enjoying some live music or bidding on some great donated items in the LCSS commons area at 640 Carson Drive on the Thursday evening.

From 6-9 p.m., some selected musical acts will be invited to take the stage, and silent auction items will be on display and open for bidding.

The funds raised will help students in the club attend two conferences: Canadian High School Model United Nations in April and Canadian International Model United Nations in May. Both conferences will take place in Vancouver.

The club hopes to be able to purchase some matching buttons and binders for the 15 students planning to participate.

“The beauty of MUN is that it adheres to a diverse group of students with varying political opinions," said Ella Kruus, on behalf of the club in an email.

"Our club represents the future of politics and debate and we learn by researching other countries’ stances, not necessarily by exercising our own political opinions," she explained.

"As students, our common goal is to learn about politics and to work for a brighter future ahead, and that is why we partake in Model United Nations.”
