A fun evening of making art is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the Central Cariboo Arts Centre.
Calling the event Hooplah - a Community Art Jam, organizer Peter Navratil said he was involved with similar events while living in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island and now that he’s back in Williams Lake thought it would be a good thing to do locally.
“It’s about being creative in the space we are in and spreading that creativity,” Navratil said. “I’m excited to bring it to Williams Lake.”
The event will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
There will be a drawing table and some drawing games to activate different types of drawing styles. There will also be collage art with magazines and glue for participants to create images.
“If people want to combine those two to make some creation of some sort that'll be fun," Navratil said.
A game show is planned, highlighting a drawing activity where contestants are asked to draw a specific image and there are judges who want changes and the contestants have to face challenges during the game.
“It could be to draw with the opposite hand or with your eyes closed,” Navratil said. “It’s kind of fun and kind of absurd and to make people not worry about mistakes and really just have fun creating and enjoying the space together.”
Music is planned for after the games and an opportunity for community members to perform.
“I’ll be offering an open mic and then we’ll have a musical jam.”
Admission is by donation or free by bringing a snack to share.
When asked about the term “Hooplah,” Navratil laughed and said it was the name he and a previous roommate used.
“It’s a great chant or shout and has great energy, just in a name. I think the word itself has some inspiration and peculiarity to it.”
The Central Cariboo Arts Centre is located at 90 Fourth Ave. North.
