Williams Lake 45th Halloween fireworks display confirmed

New this year, there will be Halloween-themed games with prizes

The community of Williams Lake can expect to see fireworks on Halloween.

On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the city confirmed its 45th annual Halloween Fireworks Blast Off is planned for Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Williams Lake Stampede Grounds.

New this year, there will be Halloween-themed games with prizes as well.

Festivities kick off at 6:30 p.m., behind the grandstand, and a large bonfire will be ready at 7:15 p.m.

As in previous years, the Williams Lake Lions Club will be serving hot dogs and hot chocolate, by donation.

The fireworks display will begin at 7:45 p.m.

Gates to the Stampede Grounds at Mackenzie Avenue and at Seventh Avenue South will open at 6:15 p.m., with Williams Lake Community Policing volunteers on site ensuring safe traffic flow to and from the event.

“The city’s annual Halloween Fireworks display is such a cherished community tradition, and we are pleased to carry it on year after year,” said Maria McKee, adult recreation program coordinator, in a news release. “We invite families to join us in their costumes after trick-or-treating for a warm meal while supporting a great charity and enjoying the fireworks and bonfire.”

The city thanked Tolko for donating wood for the bonfire, community policing for its volunteer efforts, the Williams Lake Stampede Association for the use of the grounds and the Lions Club for its ‘generous’ contributions.

“We can’t wait to see everyone there for a night of fun, food and fantastic fireworks,” McKee said.

Council has approved a budget of $12,000 a year for the fireworks display.
