A documentary film about wildfire resilience will be screening at the Gibraltar Room in Williams Lake on May 16.

Doors for the free screening at the Cariboo Memorial Complex will open at 6:30 p.m., viewing will be at 7 p.m. and a wildfire preparedness discussion will take place at 8 p.m.

The film itself features the preparation of Logan Lake leading up to August 2021 when the Tremont Creek Wildfire came close to the community.

The Test looks at the impact FireSmart practices in the community had on the outcome.

Travis Flanagan, FireSmart Educator for the Cariboo Regional District said he had a chance to see the film last week.

“It was great to see how the whole community of Logan Lake bought in to FireSmart,” he said.

“They were the first FireSmart community in Canada and have been working on ways to educate people to FireSmart their homes and properties.”

Flanagan said the community and city council worked to create jobs within the community and for students specifically to continue reducing wildfire risk.

He said thinks it is important for people to see the film in order to be aware of the risk we face in our own wildfire area and to see how doing some mitigation work can effect the outcome so much.

The film, while documenting a traumatic event, also brings hope by showing people how to take action to protect themselves, their homes and their neighbourhoods.
