Walmart Canada has announced a new initiative that it says could bring hundreds of thousands of badly needed dollars into the coffers of food banks across Canada, including the Williams Lake food bank.
The plan would see Walmart Canada Bank donate $5 to local food banks every time a customer enrols in the Walmart Rewards MasterCard program over a six-week period that ends Dec. 9.
In 2010 Walmart raised and donated more than $23 million to charities and other organizations in need.
“Faced with increasing demand for their services, community food banks need our support now more than every, says Jennifer Sault, director of Walmart Canada Bank. “Every dollar raised through this campaign will go toward providing food and vital services to help families in need.”
