A Walk for Harmony and Rally for Refugees will be held in Williams Lake on Monday, Sept. 21.

The event will take place in Spirit Square at noon with the short walk starting at 12:15 p.m.

The walk will be  followed by a light lunch at 12:40 p.m. with the closing ceremony taking place at  12:55 p.m.

The event coincides with the United Nations International Day of Peace on Sept. 21 and is being organized by the Canadian Mental Health Association, Cariboo-Chilcotin Branch.

“Many people are wondering what they can do,” says Margaret-Anne Enters, co-ordinator of the CMHA Women’s Spirituality Circle and Multiculturalism Program.

“We’d like to take the opportunity to come together to show compassion and support, as well as give people some options for action.”

There are about 20 million refugees in the world right now displaced by war, conflict and violence, Enders says.

She says another 40 or so million are internally displaced, so still in their own countries, but forcibly uprooted.
