Stampede parade organizer Willie Dye was happy with the parade and having Rick Hansen as the honorary parade marshal.
“I was absolutely thrilled with the way it went. Having Rick here really brought people out for the parade, brought people out for the Stampede and made people in Williams Lake aware of how lucky we were to have him,” Dye said Tuesday afternoon, in between returning some equipment from the parade to various businesses.
He said there were just over 100 entries, which was up 20 per cent from 2022’s parade.
Organizers were pleased as were the public, he added.
“The response I’ve had about the parade has been exceptional.”
Eyeing next year, Dye said the committee is looking at things they can do to make it better and already they are plotting to invite another famous Cariboo Chilcotin personality to be the honorary parade marshal.
“Our choice if we can get him is Carey Price, our hockey player,” Dye said, noting when Rick Hansen was asked to be this year’s he responded quickly and said he would be “absolutely thrilled.”
Price is a member of Ulkatcho First Nation and grew up playing hockey in Williams Lake.
