VIDEO: Williams Lake Punjabi community celebrates Vaisakhi

An event on Broadway Avenue on April 13 marked the Punjabi festival of Vaisakhi and the birth of Sikhism

Williams Lake's Punjabi community marked the official day of Vaisakhi or Baisakhi by inviting the greater community to enjoy some free food.

On April 13, local men from the Punjabi community, including members of both Guru Nanak Sikh Temple and the Gurdwara Western Singh Sabha Association, were making and sharing food with the rest of the community to mark the harvest or new year festival.

The official ceremonies at the local Sikh temples will take place later in April and early May, with Guru Nanak Sikh Temple hosting their ceremony April 26 at 4 p.m. and the Gurdwara Western Singh Sabha Association hosting their ceremony and flag raising on May 3 at 2 p.m.
