Draft horses Bentley and Lincoln are ready to put their hearts into the Valentine’s sleigh rides for the public this Sunday.

The Cariboo Draft Horse Club’s Valentine’s sleigh rides are a go this Sunday.

There is lots of snow up on Anderson Road where they will take place and fair weather is in the forecast.

Rides will happen Sunday, Feb. 12 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Anderson Road turnoff is five five kilometers up the Dog Creek Road.

A concession will also be available.

The event is open to the public and rides are provided by donations which help the club with the costs of participating in various community events such as the Stampede Parade, Christmas Light-up and Santa Parade, Williams Lake Harvest Fair and Horsefly parade.

The donations also help pay for the club’s insurance to provide rides at these events.

“The Cariboo Draft Horse Club is a non profit organization,” says club member Eileen Alberton. “Money raised at these public events helps to pay the club insurance, which is quite costly, so that we can do the events.”

Most recently, with donations from many businesses and individuals in the community, she says the club was able to purchase a professionally made wagon with the ability to accommodate wheel chairs.

“That is quite a hit when we do our favorite annual event at the Senior’s Village,” Alberton says.

Alberton says club members pay for their own travel to and from events, often making two trips to transport first the horses, then the wagons or sleighs.
