It looks like magic but it is actually science. Here first-year Thompson Rivers University science student Jason Beaman demonstrates how, by placing one hand on a Van de Graaff electrostatic generator, he can move this ruler around in circles without even touching it.

Jason and his chemistry/physics professor Martin Lettinga (left) are preparing this and several other amazing demonstrations for Science World’s Community Science Celebration coming up at TRU this Saturday, March 5 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Science World will have demonstrations set up in the gymnasium.

There will also be exhibits by the university and other community organizations for the public to see.
