Transition Town Group hosts film and discussion on garbage

The lakecity’s Transition Town Group will host a film and discussion night on Monday, May 27.

The lakecity’s Transition Town Group will host a film and discussion night on Monday, May 27 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Central Cariboo Arts centre.

Trashed is a provocative investigation of one of the fastest growing industries in the US, the garbage business.

The film examines a fundamental element of modern culture, the concept of throwing away.

At times humorous, but deeply poignant, Trashed examines the North American waste stream, what are the effects all this waste will have on already strained natural ecosystems.

Why is so much produced?

Where does it go?

While North Americans create almost five pounds every day, who is affected and who wants us to produce more?

The film analyzes the causes and effects of “taking out the garbage” while showcasing the individuals, corporate and advocacy groups working to affect change and reform the current model.

Trashed is an informative and thought-provoking film everyone interested in future consequences and sustainability should see.

Following the film there will be a short presentation on waste reduction efforts here in Williams Lake.
