Toastmasters in Williams Lake host an open house at the Ramada Inn tonight

The Williams Lake Toastmasters Club  is hosting an open house this evening, Wednesday, March 15 in room 109 at the Ramada Hotel.

The open house will be just one hour from 7 to 8 p.m., the same time frame as the group's weekly meetings.

At Toastmasters meetings club members work together to hone their impromptu speaking skills which helps them to become more comfortable and confident when confronted with cold calls or a series of other spontaneous speaking situations.

They learn to relax when called upon to introduce people; when asked for feedback on a new idea; handling questions at a meeting; and more.

"We practice to improve these skills by having a fun with interactive table topics on every week’s agenda," says member Marcia Reid. "It is only one hour per week for the meetings and you will see improvement!

Among other skills Toastmasters can acquire include:

• learning how to craft a persuasive argument

• organize your thoughts

• use evocative phrasing (produce a vivid impression through i.e. imagination)

• evaluate what other people say

• connect with your audience, whether it is one person or thousands.

Meetings are held on Wednesday evenings in room 109 at the Ramada Hotel. The receptionist at the front desk will advise if there is a room change.
