Williams Lake’s annual Take Back the Night Walk occurs Friday, Sept. 28.

An annual march against violence in the city of all kinds, walk organizers invite people young and old, victims and supporters to stand together and take back their streets.

Starting at the Purple House by Denny’s Restaurant at 5 p.m. the walk will loop around the block, in front of the police station and down by Save-On-Foods, before looping back to the beginning.

Diana Lowe, the Violence Counsellor of the Women’s Contact Society, said that there will be activities at the walk’s start and end for children and adults, with a heavy focus on dialogue about violence — a running theme throughout the evening.

A barbecue with hot dogs will also be available for free, according to Lowe.

“It’s important to let people know that we need to stop the violence and we need to be in people’s faces with our message for it to stop,” Lowe said.

She feels that it’s important for people to stand together as a group, men and women, to take back their streets and feel safe at night. Take Back the Night Walk is the perfect way to achieve this and Lowe encourages everybody to attend.
