Several local students were honoured for their talents in fostering Remembrance by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139 recently.
In the Royal Canadian Legion’s longstanding Annual Poster and Literary Contests in November school children honoured Canada’s veterans through creative art and writing, to help perpetuate Remembrance Day.
The Poster and Literary contest are divided into four categories: Senior: Grades 10, 11, 12, Intermediate: Grades 7, 8, 9, Junior: Grades 4, 5, 6 and Primary: Grades 1, 2, 3 (Poster Contest only).
The Poster Contest is divided into two categories: colour and black and white. The Literary Contest is divided into two categories: essay and poem.
Entries are submitted at the Branch level and winning entries then proceed to the provincial and national level.

On Dec. 16, 2018, Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139 winners of this contest attended the local Legion to receive their prizes.
First place winners were awarded $50, second place winners received $35 and third place winners received $25.
First place winning entries were sent forward to be judged beside five other branches in our Zone, first place winners from those will be sent to Provincial level.
Bonnie O’Neill, service officer and zone commander for the Cariboo, said she is always moved by the quality and number of entries in the Fostering Remembrance contests.
“We are very grateful to the schools who take part and help us build Remembrance,” O’Neill said.
“We had a lot of really good entries this year and I know the judges are always touched by how the children foster Remembrance. I am very proud of all of them.”
