Both contestants continuing on in the annual Stampede Queen Contest made an impressive showing at the horsemanship competition portion of the contest held Wednesday evening at the Stampede arena.
The judges put contestants Kaylee Billyboy Miss Gustafson’s Dodge and Tennale Sailor Miss Beaver Valley Feeds through their paces in three separate rounds of riding to test their equestrian skills.
In the first round the riders walked, loped, trotted and jogged their horses around the area. In the second round they completed an intricate reining pattern that included a figure eight, circles, half circles and rotating their horses backwards around in a tight circle one way and then the other way. They also backed up their horses.
In the final round they raced around the arena giving the crowd a big wave as they will do in the grand entries during the Williams Lake Stampede coming up June 29 to July 2.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, organizers said that Brianna Wyness Miss Tim Hortons did not attend the fashion show and speech portion of the contest held last Saturday evening at the Gibraltar Room and did not attend the horsemanship portion of the contest.
The Stampede Queen coronation takes place this Saturday evening, June 24 starting at 7 p.m. in the Gibraltar Room. Tickets are $15 and available by contacting Davana Mahon at wlstampederoyalty@gmail.com.
